Dr. Orton trained in Dermatology at the Royal Free Hospital and the Royal London Hospital where he completed higher training in Dermatology in 2000. After further sub-specialist training in Contact Dermatitis and General Allergy, he was awarded Fellowship of the Royal College of Physicians in 2005 and an MSc in Allergy in 2008.

Dr. Orton is an Honorary Consultant Dermatologist at the Royal Free Hospitals NHS Trust, where he runs the cutaneous allergy investigation unit, having previously led the cutaneous allergy investigation unit and General Adult Allergy service at The Hillingdon Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.​ Dr. Orton also established the Paediatric and Adult Allergy service for Buckinghamshire Hospitals NHS Trust.
He previously held an Honorary Paediatric Allergy Consultant post at the Evelina Children’s Hospital in London.

As past President of the British Society of Cutaneous Allergy and current Secretary of the European Society of Contact Dermatitis, he is a frequently invited lecturer at both National and International meetings on Contact Dermatitis and sits on the Advisory Board of EPIDERM as part of the Health and Occupational Reporting Network, University of Manchester. This provides information on occupational skin disease to Public Health England.

Dr. Orton is the author of a Dermatology textbook, and has contributed chapters to other General Dermatology and Specialist Allergy textbooks. He is the author of over 45 peer reviewed papers and was invited to give evidence to the House of Lords Science and Technology Committee inquiry into Allergy.
