A consultation with a consultant allergist costs £350, lasts up to one hour, and includes any private prescriptions. Allergy tests are priced separately and paid on the day — only after your consultant has advised which tests, if any, will genuinely help.

No — and it's usually better if you don't try to decide in advance. Your consultant takes a detailed medical history first, then recommends only the tests that will help your diagnosis; where possible, they may suggest your GP arranges some on the NHS to save you money. Skin prick tests are done during the appointment itself, with results in around 20 minutes.

Skin prick test results are ready during your appointment; blood test results follow within a few days. Your clinic letter arrives by secure email within 5–10 working days — the doctors personally review and refine every letter before it's sent, an extra quality-control step to make sure nothing has been missed. If you need your letter urgently, a 1–2 day priority service is available for £50.

Please don't stop any medication before speaking to us. Antihistamines do need to be paused at least 72 hours before a skin prick test for the results to be reliable, and some other medicines — such as steroids and mirtazapine — can also affect the result. But not everyone needs a skin prick test, and blood tests are completely unaffected by medication. If pausing your medicines isn't right for you, your consultant can simply use a blood test instead — so never stop treatment you rely on for the sake of a test.
